Plastic surgery’s progress is contingent upon research-based exploration and
innovation. In 2011, The Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF) continued to be the
driving force behind the research, development and discovery that will sustain the
future of this specialty. Through streamlined operations and a refined focus on The
PSF’s core functions, the past year saw significant increases in the foundation’s ability to
concentrate specifically on funding research to improve patient care, fostering the career
development of plastic surgeons and the scientific discovery that nurtures the evolution
of plastic surgery.
This year also brought a new look, specifically a newly designed logo that illustrates
The PSF’s renewed commitment to advancing the specialty through research, innovation,
training and humanitarian work around the world. It is my honor to have helped establish
www.ThePSF.org, where all of our good deeds, clinical outcomes and training and education
opportunities can be found and shared.
Lastly, with a new and improved look, purpose and vehicle through which we can
communicate and engage you, I sincerely hope that you revisit supporting The PSF. Our new
charitable campaign, The Drive for 75 aspires to re-engage members of the American Society
of Plastic Surgeons and encourage 75 percent of the membership to financially support The
PSF again, as they have in the past.
It has been my honor and privilege to have served as your President of The PSF over the
last year. I am grateful for the opportunity and pleased to share with you this brief report of
milestones accomplished this last year.
Sincerely,

John A. Persing, MD
