The National Endowment for Plastic Surgery
The National Endowment for Plastic Surgery (NEPS) was founded to support research and development in the field of plastic surgery and specifically to fund research directed toward immediate issues facing the clinical practice of plastic surgery.
NEPS will support research and fund programs directed toward defining the efficacy and safety of established plastic surgical procedures, and the early investigation of innovative technology in plastic surgery.
We restore and make whole those parts which nature or ill fortune have taken away, not so much to delight the eye but to buoy up the spirit of the afflicted. ~ Gaspare Tagliacozzi, 1597
The Endowment represents one of the most significant and potentially far-reaching initiatives of the specialty. NEPS is a fund within The Plastic Surgery Foundation restricted to funding research that supports the immediate issues facing the clinical practice of plastic surgery. As a specialty-wide effort, the NEPS is able to be proactive in identifying opportunities and responding to changing demands while ensuring the future of plastic surgery.
Contributions to the Endowment
- Support research directed toward immediate issues facing the clinical practice of plastic surgery.
- Ensure plastic surgery is an innovative surgical specialty of the future through early investigation of new technology.
- Facilitate programs directed toward defining the efficacy and safety of established plastic surgery procedures.
All contributions to the Endowment are added to the principal of the fund, and remain there in perpetuity. Only the income generated by prudent investing of this principal is available to fund projects. Roughly, 5% of the Endowment fund's market value is awarded each year to grant recipients.
Generous contributions have enabled the Endowment to support studies from across the specialty.
